The Palisades Reservoir is located on the Wyoming / Idaho border in southeast Idaho. Bear Creek is one of the many streams that feed the lake on its west shore. Just north of Bear Creek, about 1,000 feet above the lake, is a little basin that often harbors elk as well as moose and mule deer. Several time I have left the valley an hour before daylight to be in the spot looking for this guy. Sometimes he is there, sometimes not. The days he is, it is a thrill to hear the "Sounds of the High Country."
